Ergologics and Sit/Stand Workstations

“To be or NOT to be! that is the question”- I am not Shakespearean analysis, but I know a bit about purchasing a sit-stand workstation. I have seen sit- stand workstations evolve, and I have seen prices change.

Let’s start out with the different types of sit-stand workstations, shall we?

There are converting sit stand workstations (that sit on your desk with and without keyboard trays), there are pneumatic, cranks and electrical sit to stand workstations. Pricing is a factor and people will choose what best fits their budget but be careful while it all sounds good and looks good it may not be beneficial to you. In fact, it could do you more harm than good.

Everyone has good intentions and wants the best for themselves and we should! However, there are many factors to consider when purchasing something of this nature. Even though over the last few years products have improved especially with hydraulics but sometimes lifting a converting standing workstation when having a bad back or an injury can cause re-injury.  You need to have a good understanding of how the body works and what happens when you stand for too long or sit for too long. Ergonomically it may not be the same for the individual sitting next to you. No one person is alike and getting the same sit stand for everyone can be risky.

Now, let’s ask why would you want to purchase a sit-stand workstation? Are you sharing the workstation with someone? Are you wanting to stand more because you think it is better for your health? Do you feel that you truly understand the purpose of a sit-stand workstation or are you guessing? Did you know that your health condition or an injury can affect the type of sit stand to purchase? What about if you wear high heels? Do you need a floor mat?  Do you know how long you should stand for and why? Do you know which one fits the best for you and why this is important? So many questions and we can answer these!

I, too, want what is best for you. That is why before making big purchases like these, it is wise to consult with ergonomic experts who are looking out for your best interest and not selling their own products like some of those big companies out there. They will only tell you what is best about their product because they want to SELL it. They will pay to advertise their product that’s what salespeople do.

Ergologics, looks at the products, studies the products and understands the products. We look for what could be potential problems and try to eliminate what could be of harm. With 38 years of experience, it is our goal to always look out for you.

So, the question is to stand or not to stand? The answer is actually quite simple! Consult with Ergologics. I know it sounds so cliché’ but we can help you determine the best solution for you. While there is no real answer since everyone is so different and their needs are different, we can help you decided if this is something you really want to invest in.
